“I haven’t had lice since I was 6! How is it that I’m in college and I caught head lice?”
This is a question we hear all the time at Lice Clinics Medford. The truth is, college students, moms and other adults contract lice the same way everyone else does. The most common way people get head lice is through prolonged head to head contact. The most mystifying part, though, is figuring out who the hell gave it to you in the first place!
When this happens, meaning a person comes in to our clinics and has no idea where they could have possibly been exposed, we run through a check list assessment. Finding out the point of origin is so important – it keeps you safe from re-infestation. If that in depth line of questioning ends up without a lead, we focus on prevention. We have preventive products for use after leaving our clinic, we teach our clients what to look for once they are on their own, and we provide guidance and support long after our appointments end.
Many people are so traumatized by getting lice, and seeing bugs fall from their hair, that they often come back to us for additional checks just to have peace of mind! It’s a jarring, confusing, traumatic, weird thing to deal with. We will stick with you until you are through with lice and over the trauma!
